To get to Los Cedros in one day, from Quito or Otavalo, take the first buses that leave for the community of El Chontal, located in the García Moreno parish of the Cotacachi canton, province of Imbabura; from here you must go to Magdalena Alto, a small town where the 2-hour walk to the Los Cedros Scientific Station begins. At the entrance to the trail there is secure parking for your vehicle.

Mule transportation is available for volunteers and visitors. The Chontal – Upper Magdalena section can be done by car at a cost of $8.00.
